June18 2014- Amazon Inc's founder Jeff Bezos unveiled Fire, the company's first phone designed in-house. It is currently the only smartphone with Dynamic Perspective Software Development Kit (SDK) and Firefly. They are two innovations that enables customers to see and interact with their surroundings through a whole new lens. Dynamic Perspective Sensor System is very much new and employs the orientations of the smartphone when the user is holding or handling it; which includes movements as well. The Dynamic Perspective SDK gives developers access to algorithms that identifies the coordinates of the head, as such creating the prospects of whole new types of apps and games. Firefly quickly recognizes objects in its immediate surrounding as well as web and email addresses, phone numbers, QR and bar codes, movies, music, and millions of products, it quickly provides the user the opportunity by means of a Firefly button to act based on what the individual has seen.
With the Firefly SDK, developers can modify the use of the Firefly button and much more to enable different actions their users can take based on what they identify. See a full breakdown of the Dynamic Perspective and Firefly SDKs, their contents, and what developers are saying about them through this link.
So in a nutshell Firefly is a trojan horse for shopping on Amazon. Go into a store, look up a serial number, and it will search for it on the web. Then, Amazon will likely be offering a cheaper price for that HDTV, Tablet, Gadget or anythingelse you are looking at, and it will offer a one click buy.
Will Amazon ever make much, if any money on the hardware, is another question. Investors seemed impressed by the $199.99 price tag for a basic Fire Phone as they initially feared the device would be free.
AMZN is up by 2.63% on the pre-market trading for June 19 2014, it 52 week range is $408.06-$205; which means it up by 54% within this period. Its Short ratio is 1.28 and the Put-Call ratio is 0.58 all indicating that investors are currently bullish towards Amazon as there are almost twice the number of Open Interest Calls as there are Puts and the 1.28 Short ratio is hardly significant.
Further checks on its charts indicates the highest point in its 52 week range was in January of this year 2014 at $408.06 and it is trading at $333.70 meaning that it is down 18% in calendar year 2014. Its Accumulation and Distribution line indicates that Investors may have responded to this decline by accumulating more shares as this curve is trending higher than it was in January 2014.
This could be the reason for the bullish indications and indeed an upward trend price wise though not anywhere near the January price. Plotting the Simple Moving Average curve on the same graph with that of the Price curve proves that there is an accumulation and an upward trend as the latter is above the former.
It may make sense to join the buying fray as it is the buzz especially with the recent announcement noted above but expect some corrections, we think AMZN's support is at $306.60 and there may be corrections occurring soon.
